MANILA, Philippines — As its 48th year milestone comes to a close, Teatro Tomasino, the premier theater organization of University of Santo Tomas, brings a story on the beauty and tangled web of complexities of art and the written word with “Marissa”.
Written by Isagani Cruz, under the direction of Angel Ocampo, the full-length play follows the story of Mario, a PhD candidate, that sets out to interview an author that is meant to be the subject of his dissertation. It is in this interview progresses that the intersections of art and literature and the discussion of truth and justice, explored by the characters.

In keeping with its theme “Sibol”, the production is an exploration and showcase of the value and power of the theater arts not just a form of expression through elaborate costumes, lights, and acting talent, but an act of resistance and a bridge that links to the truth, especially the ones that are being suppressed and silenced.
“Marissa” is a ringing reminder that theater, and in fact, art, in all its forms, will continue to persist and prevail even in times of adversity and uncertainty. For Teatro Tomasino, this is a declaration of the unwavering commitment to create, deliver, and fight.

“Marissa” runs from April 28 to 30 with time slots at 12:30 PM, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and on May 2 at 10:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM at the Tan Yan Kee Audio Visual Room, University of Santo Tomas. Ticket prices are at ₱399 for VIP and ₱300 for Regular Tickets, that can be reserved via Google Forms.
