MANILA, Philippines — Hot off a recent announcement, GMG Productions, in association with Barry & Fran Weissler and David Ian, marks the anticipated return to the stages of Manila, the beloved and iconic production of “CHICAGO The Musical” for a limited run from March 9 to 28, 2027 at The Theatre at Solaire, opening doors for Filipino audiences to experience Broadway’s longest-running American musical live on stage.
More than a decade after its 2014 Manila run, the well-received musical returns to The Theatre at Solaire, where it first opened in the Philippines. Now celebrating 30 years on Broadway, the Tony Award-winning production has since played more than 11,700 performances, enjoyed by over 35 million people worldwide, and reached 38 countries and more than 525 cities.

Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, writes on bringing this Broadway classic back to Manila, “’CHICAGO’ is one of those extraordinary shows that never goes out of style. It’s sexy, sophisticated, provocative and wickedly funny, with incredible music, iconic Bob Fosse choreography, and a story of fame, ambition, scandal, and celebrity that remains as relevant as ever.
“There’s something especially meaningful about bringing ‘CHICAGO’ back to The Theatre at Solaire, where it inaugurated the venue in 2014. More than twelve years later, returning to the same stage feels like a real homecoming. What I love most about [the show] is its edge. It’s glamorous and seductive, but also dark, witty, and dangerous. From ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Cell Block Tango’ to ‘Razzle Dazzle,’ it’s filled with songs and moments that have become part of musical theater history.”
Candal highlights, “We’re thrilled to bring it back to Manila in March 2027. Whether you saw it in 2014 or are discovering it for the first time, CHICAGO is a show that truly comes alive on stage. Come on, baby — let’s razzle dazzle.”

Set in 1920s Chicago, the enduring musical follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who finds herself on trial for murder. With the help of slick lawyer Billy Flynn, she attempts to turn her crime into a sensational media spectacle – only to find herself competing for the spotlight with fellow inmate and nightclub star Velma Kelly.
With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the musical features iconic numbers including “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” “Razzle Dazzle,” and “Nowadays.”
The original production was directed by Tony AwardⓇ winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony AwardⓇ winner Ann Reinking, with a creative team including John Lee Beatty, William Ivey Long, Ken Billington, and Ricke Clarke.

Barry Weissler, producer of “CHICAGO The Musical”, writes about the return of the production to the very stage where first first opened in Manila, “It was such an honor to be chosen as the inaugural production at the grand opening of the Theatre at Solaire back in 2014, so for CHICAGO to return to Manila next year and take that same stage again is a real homecoming. John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse created a prescient masterpiece that is ever relevant in this moment and time. Audiences are in for a real treat. The show is as hot as ever!”
As part of the production’s 30th Anniversary global tour, David Ian, Co-Producer of Crossroads Live, says in a press statement, “We’re delighted to announce the return of CHICAGO to the Theatre at Solaire in March 2027 as part of its red hot 30th Anniversary global tour. CHICAGO truly is the triple threat musical that combines the sensational choreography of Bob Fosse, with the master melodies of John Kander and satirical lyrics of Fred Ebb. Our incredible company can’t wait to perform CHICAGO in Manila, home of such an enthusiastic musical theatre audience. Get ready to paint the town!”
