NEW ZEALAND — Reigning as New Zealand’s most watched live band, Drax Project is back with a new version of their multi-platinum hit ‘Catching Feelings’ with SIX60, now featuring Brooklyn-based, R&B/Neo Soul group Phony Ppl via 300 Records.
The laid-back, feel good anthem has already achieved over 105 million streams on Spotify alone since it was originally released in 2019. Remarkably, without any support or servicing from US or International radio, the song has become an international streaming hit.
Now revamped to reach the masses, Drax Project’s lovable tune about falling for someone and hoping they feel the same is certain to break through to the next level. Equipped with smooth saxophone layers, gospel style vocals, and sweet chordal piano, the song makes for a wonderful soundtrack to the summer’s warm, light evenings, complete with a heartrending rap verse from Phony Ppl.
Speaking of the new version, Drax Project said: “The original Catching Feelings was a product of our friendship with Six60. We’d enjoyed hanging with Phony Ppl while in The States, so when the chance to reboot the song for US radio came along they were the first people we asked to hop on”.
Beginning as music students busking on the streets, Drax Project have grown into one of the most watched groups ever to come out of New Zealand. Through their own headline tours + international festival performances and opening for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Christina Aguilera, Lorde, Brian McKnight & Camila Cabello, the band have emerged as one of the world’s ‘must see’ young live acts. Singles off the self-titled debut (300/Universal) album have collected over 350 million streams worldwide and 15 Platinum certifications to date.
The band are set to follow the re-release of ‘Catching Feelings’ with a run of brand new singles throughout August and September. In addition to recently being selected as a Fender Next Artist for 2021, the band impressively sold out two of their shows within days of their 2021 NZ tour announcement.
‘Catching Feelings’ feat. Phony Ppl was released on 16th July via 300 Records.
