As we are nearing the end of the rollercoaster ride of 2025 theater season, here are the productions you can’t afford to miss before the year concludes, and the plays you should save a seat for as you welcome the fast approaching year of 2026:
Alice in Wonderland
Aug. 23 – Dec. 14, 2025
The magical rabbit is ready to guide you down the mystical path to a musical adventure as Repertory Philippines brings “Alice in Wonderland” to the Philippine stage.
This reimagined adaptation of the timeless classic written by Lewis Carroll, with music and lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, promises a fantastical experience in Wonderland. Packed with whimsy, enchanting musical numbers, and immersive sets, this stage play is set to offer its audience–whether they are curious kids or adults seeking to reclaim their sense of wonder–a memorable visual feast of childhood magic.
Anino Sa Likod ng Buwan
Oct. 17 – Nov. 9, 2025
Directed by Tuxqs Rutaquio, this stage adaptation of a feature film set in the war-torn province of Mindanao in the 1990s shows a promising new direction for the award-winning play originally written and directed by acclaimed director Jun Robles Lana. This is a production of IdeaFirst Live, the live performance arm of IdeaFirst Company.
Starring Martin del Rosario, Elora Españo, and Ross Pesigan, now joined by new actors Denise Esteban, Vincent Pajara, and Edward Benosa, the story follows the complex and tricky relationship of a couple and a soldier as they navigate their lives in a remote village tangled in socio-political unrest. This conflict propels them to grapple with personal relationships, survival, morality, and the lingering effects of war.
Bar Boys: The Musical
Oct. 24 – Nov. 24, 2025
The hit musical adaptation of Kip Oebanda’s fan-favorite film, “Bar Boys: The Musical”, is set to return to the stage to tell the story of four friends in their pursuit of dreams. The show follows the young lawyers-in-making as they navigate the complexities of their personal lives, figuring out and forging their own path to success.
It revolves around the journey of Erik, Chris, Torran, and Josh, with the returning cast of Alex Diaz, Jerom Canlas, Omar Uddin, and Benedix Ramos, who wear their hearts on their sleeves, driven by their dreams and aspirations to make a change in the world, which keep them carrying on despite doubt and uncertainties. As they are met with the harsh realities of both the academe and societal standing, each of them must learn to carve their own destiny amid academic pressure, interpersonal conflicts, and trials of faith, all while keeping their convictions intact.
Shrek: The Musical
Oct. 31 – Dec. 14, 2025
The international musical based on the DreamWorks Animation film based on the book of William Steig, “Shrek: The Musical”, is making its way to Philippines stage, brought by Full House Theater Company and Newport World Resorts under the direction of Dexter Santos.
Featuring the beloved and iconic ogre, it’s ready to take you on a fantasy-driven theatrical adventure packed with comedic relief, an expressive and catchy score, and impressive costumes. This atypical fairy tale will definitely capture the hearts of audiences of all ages with its hilarious, witty, and lovable characters and its magnificent, immersive ensemble.
Sala sa Pito
Nov. 14 – Dec. 6, 2025
Palanca award winning play “Sala sa Pito” by George de Jesus III is set to grace the stage again as Boxstage Manila restages the production following its debut run last May.
The play follows the stories of eight characters who live an interconnected life, showcasing delicate human relationships and how every interaction is almost like a puzzle that fits and connects human encounters. Under the direction of Boxstage Manila founder, PETA Senior Artist, and FTG Artistic Director Dudz Teraña, the play unfolds almost like an interactive sequence, letting the audience feel like they are watching a raw and genuine interaction between people–almost like an unassuming bystander.
Set in everyday places like a cafe, a karaoke bar, and even the busy corner of a lugawan, the play offers a raw, intimate look at how human connections form, shift, and endure.
Gregoria Lakambini
Nov. 14 – Dec. 14, 2025
Dubbed as a Pinay pop musical featuring Marynor Madamesila, “Gregoria Lakambini” breaks new ground as Tanghalang Pilipino’s newest original musical. Written by Nicanor Tiongson, it follows the story of a spirited woman in Caloocan, Gregoria de Jesus as she becomes the “Lakambini ng Katipunan,” who stands and fights alongside Andres Bonifacio, the Filipino revolutionary leader also known as “The Father of the Philippine Revolution.”
Under the direction and co-choreography of Delphine Buencamino, the play will take you back to the distant past where revolution ignites strong, and when history is being written, as Oryang’s story gets told on the center stage, where her voice emerges with strength and clarity.
Si Faust
Nov. 14-23, 2025
“Si Faust”, a musical created by Basti Artadi and Nelsito Gomez featuring the discography of the legendary OPM rock band Wolfgang will hit the center stage as Areté Ateneo presents its very own adaptation of Goethe’s classic tragedy.
This contemporary adaptation plunges the immortal story of Faust, the disillusioned scholar who sells his soul to the devil, Mephistopheles. It explores the universal theme of one’s desperation for knowledge, power, and ultimate satisfaction.
With 21 songs from Wolfgang’s music library, this production is set to be a visual and sonic spectacle.
Les Misérables World Tour Spectacular

The critically acclaimed theatrical masterpiece, “Les Misérables”, is coming back to the Philippines to deliver yet another outstanding performance.
This longest-running musical in the world, known for its powerful ensemble packed with timeless musical scores, is a cultural phenomenon that proves the power of music where emotions run deep. Set in the 19th century, it follows the lives of Jean Valjean, a French peasant seeking redemption, and the daughter of a tragic factory worker, Cosette, as they travel across France during the French Revolution.
It revolves around the social and political struggle, philosophy, and a deep look at the human condition that offers audiences a one-of-a-kind emotional kick. Stemming from a few decades back, this hit 40-year-old play continues to make its way to audiences of different generations, proving its relevance and how there’s no better time to watch it than now. This production will remain etched in history, its scores forever reverberating, sung through by the people of different nations, races, and creeds.
Mabining Mandirigma: A Steampunk Musical
Mar. 6 – Mar. 29, 2026
This award winning Filipino musical, with book and lyrics by Dr. Nicanor Tiongson under the direction of Chris Millado, is set to return to the stage to showcase the life and struggles of Apolinario Mabini. Produced by Tanghalang Pilipino, the resident theater company of Cultural Center of the Philippines, this staging is set to mark its 10th anniversary, with a braver and more intimate rendering.
The production explores the themes of patriotism, political integrity, the conflicts between the educated elite (Ilustrados) and true revolutionaries, and the parallels between the challenges faced by the First Republic and contemporary Philippine society.
The play transports you back in time, allowing you to witness and recall the historic events that unfold in our history with Mabini himself played by a woman, by award-winning actress Shaira Opsimar, making the show stand out to other revolution centric musicals.
The curtain is closing on the year, but the stage is far from empty. The final quarter of 2025 and the promising horizon of 2026 are set to deliver a mix of compelling dramas, classics, and major international productions to the Philippine stage.
