Multi-hyphenated star Sarah Geronimo is more than just a singer, an actress, and an endorser. These days she is also growing into her role as an independent woman with a clear sense of herself–not to mention an undeniably blossoming lovelife. But when asked what being an empowered woman means to her, everyone’s beloved ‘Popstar Royalty’ is quick to say,” Alam mo na, no matter what happens, whatever comes your way, ‘pag mahal mo yung sarili mo, you’ll never lose track of your goals.”
In a recent interview, she shares her newfound way to express self-love–spending more time in the kitchen. Like most career women, Sarah is busy with her job, with a long list of activities that eat up her time. Hence, she opts for more convenient ways in order to cope with the demands of her schedule.
“Since palagi akong on-the-go with tapings and shoots, naging convenient sa situation ko yung pagkain sa labas or to eat whatever is available,” says Sarah. “Pero minsan, gusto mo rin talagang ipagluto yung sarili mo, di ba?”
Unbeknownst to many, Sarah has taken an interest in cooking. She even took culinary classes in the past, but due to her busy schedule, she was not able to finish the course. However, there was something about cooking for herself that she found reflective.
“Sobrang importante sa akin to learn how to take care of myself, and one of the goals I had was matuto na magluto. Ang pinaka-fascinating dito is that natutunan ko na rin mag-budget, magtantsa, and most especially, magpasensya. You’ll learn a lot about yourself in the kitchen.”
When asked if she thought it was backwards for women to be cooking, she firmly replied, “Hindi. As long as gusto mo talagang ginagawa ito, it doesn’t matter whether lalaki or babae. I enjoy cooking. For me, it’s a way to show that you’re independent and you can rely on yourself.”
Sarah is excited to eventually take her cooking skills a step further by inviting friends to her house and hosting her own dinner parties. “Kaya ito yung goal ko this month, matutong magluto ng iba’t-ibang putahe. I am inspired by women who are determined and fearless to empower themselves–pursue your passion. Being empowered is as simple as doing what you enjoy; and for me, one of those is cooking and nourishing my body. Marami akong natututunan at healthy pa. ‘Di ba nga po sabi nila, it all starts from within.”
