MANILA, Philippines—Apple Original Films has released two new “Character Chronicles” featurettes for Martin Scorsese’s eagerly awaited “Killers of the Flower Moon.” These chronicles spotlight Robert De Niro as William King Hale and Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart. With a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, De Niro, and Gladstone, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is set to premiere in theaters worldwide, including IMAX theaters, on October 18.

In “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Martin Scorsese’s tenth collaboration with Robert De Niro, De Niro takes on the role of William “King” Hale, a complex character who, despite being convicted of murder, harbors a mix of qualities. He’s both an extortionist and an advocate for the Osage people, whom he considers the “most beautiful people in the world.” Scorsese describes Hale as a prophet, believing it’s their time to flourish and trying to ease their path, even if it involves unsettling methods. The relationship between Hale and the Osage is not easily categorized into hero or villain.

Meanwhile, for the role of Mollie Burkhart, Leonardo DiCaprio and Scorsese found a perfect fit in Native American actress Lily Gladstone. Her presence and silent reactions significantly influenced DiCaprio’s character development and the dynamics between Mollie and Ernest. Scorsese highlights how Gladstone’s ability to convey emotions through silence enriched the storytelling.

Set at the dawn of the 20th century, “Killers of the Flower Moon” delves into the Osage Nation’s sudden wealth from oil, attracting white opportunists who manipulated and stole Osage riches before resorting to murder. The film, based on a true story and centered on the love story of Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Gladstone), is an epic western crime saga where genuine love collides with unimaginable betrayal. The cast also includes Jesse Plemons and Robert De Niro. Directed by Martin Scorsese and penned by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, adapted from David Grann’s best-selling book.
