MANILA, Philippines — In its long standing history, San Miguel Pale Pilsen has endeared generations of Filipinos with its signature, award-winning brew that has become the pride of Filipinos worldwide. For over 135 years, the global Filipino beer brand has since captivated consumers by forging friendships, serving delightful experiences and unforgettable moments.

In celebration of this history, San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) looks back on its storied past to honor its rich heritage as it marks its 135th year with the release of a limited-edition can that celebrates its tradition of brewing excellence and how its brews triumphed in permeating into the very fabric of Filipino culture.
With a creative collaboration with celebrated visual artist Francis Nacion, a limited-edition “Balik Tanaw” can paints a portrait of sceneries from days of old. The collectible piece captures how San Miguel has become part of the Filipino way of life, re-imagining traditional milieu with San Miguel Pale Pilsen present personal milestones and enriching social settings.

Nacion, acclaimed for his stylized forms and distinct half-rendered visage and play on both dark and bright sides, is recognized as one of the most celebrated local contemporary artists today. Since 2009, he has since mounted multiple solo exhibits, both here and abroad, with a body of work that illustrates his love and pride for his country and its culture.
This affinity with depicting local imagery inspired by traditional values and cultural significance made Nacion’s creation of San Miguel Pale Pilsen limited-edition can personal, reflective, intuitive, and intentional, integrated seamlessly with the brand, connecting with principles rooted in history and national pride.

When asked about the inspiration behind the art reflected in the limited edition release, Nacion shares, “Pamilya. Namulat talaga ako na kasama na sa kultura ng Pilipino ang San Miguel Pale Pilsen. Paborito talaga ito ng lolo ko, kaya iyon talaga ang naging inspirasyon ko sa heritage can.”
