Homecoming, with a subhead, “A film by Beyoncé”, is the multi-awarded performer’s “intimate, in-depth look at [the] celebrated 2018 Coachella performance”, which goes through the emotional road she has trodden in bringing about the now-iconic Coachella performance in 2018, “from creative concept to cultural movement.”

The trailer opens, with the haunting narration of Maya Angelou leads to clips and insider looks of Beyonce’s creative process to her team’s physical preparations that ultimately led to a momentous first in the music festival’s history.

After Beyonce made a declaration that she will headline Coachella–the first Black woman to do so–the Internet erupted in praise for the performer, largely celebrating and schooling the world with her homage to Black culture and Black history–drumline performances, choirs, and all. Remember when Twitter called Beyonce’s performance an event itself? #BeyChella, anyone?

Homecoming brings us all back in that landmark event, giving us, mere mortals, not just a backstage glimpse but a personal journey with the Queen Bey herself.

Homecoming premieres on Netflix, April 17. Do mark it!
