MANILA, Philippines — Released on September 10, Jensen Gomez’s latest EP “Phases Vol. 2” is a “literal sound trip–from dance pop to hip-hop to trap soul, these are the sonic adventures you’d hear in the three-track record.
For people familiar with Jensen’s work, his alluring alternative R&B sound and laid back high pitched vocals are one of his many trademarks when it comes to his music, but with the release of “Phases Vol. 2”, Jensen proves to not only be a visionary artist, but also a genre-fluid producer who can morph himself to any song and with any artist.
“Phases Vol. 2” is a three-track collaborative EP that features neo-soul singer Dani Idea, rapper Switch of Assembly Generals, and R&B soul singer Seonna who each perform songs of different genres composed, mixed, and produced by Jensen Gomez.
The EP starts off with a dance pop-funk single, “Yas Queen”, performed by Dani Idea, which is a song that promotes self-love, girl power, and women empowerment. Just as you’re about to bust a move, the mood drastically changes from light to heavy once the next track, “From My Window”, plays and you hear trance-like chants and Switch spitting out bars about the blackhole that is brought about the pandemic leading you to watch life pass you by from your window. After breaking a sweat from that heart thumping rap and hip-hop single, Jensen Gomez and Seonna slow it down and closes the sound trip with trap soul track, “Sprung”, a bedroom love song that will seduce you to turn the lights down low and turn up the speakers as you do body waves to its lo-fi beats.
“Phases Vol. 2” is the second EP of Jensen Gomez’ Phases trilogy.
