MANILA, PHILIPPINES – On-demand food delivery app, foodpanda, and the City Government of Manila signed a significant partnership that seeks to provide jobs to the city’s 500 tricycle drivers who were greatly affected by the government’s imposition of the enhanced community quarantine due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Aptly called pandaTODA, the initiative seeks to recruit and train 500 tricycle drivers from the City of Manila to become partner riders for two months – during the enhanced community quarantine and beyond. They will, however, have the choice of continuing their engagement with foodpanda beyond this period.

We are extremely grateful to foodpanda for continuously providing their services and help in this time of crisis. This gives Manileños hope by giving means to earn a living. This project does not just help our community, it also aims to keep the spirit of solidarity alive.) shared Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso.

“All of the tricycle drivers who will be recruited will officially begin training this week at the Manila City Hall and will be provided with pink uniforms and thermo bags. We’re all excited to welcome the new riders in the foodpanda family. We hope that with this initiative, we are able to help ease their burden of providing for their families during this difficult time,” said Daniel Marogy, foodpanda Philippines’ Managing Director

Foodpanda aims to open more cities in the coming months to ensure every Filipino will get to enjoy all the food they love at the comforts of their own home or office

The Manila City Mayor emphasized that food delivery has become an important service during the past month and a half of enhanced community quarantine.

Through the services provided by foodpanda, citizens of Manila are encouraged to stay at home. They no longer have the need to go out to access basic needs. Instead, they can just have them delivered. This service also gives food to trike drivers who have been displaced and affected in Manila. We thank you, foodpanda. This is only the beginning of a fruitful partnership with the city of Manila and its people),” Moreno added.

“We are honored to take part in the initiatives of the Manila City government to provide a secure, safe, and sustainable livelihood for its constituents, especially the highly vulnerable ones. What we provide are freelance jobs, which will allow them with both opportunity and flexibility on the job,” said Marogy.
