JAKARTA, Indonesia—The upbeat new single “Orbit” by Indonesian R&B singer-songwriter VVYND was just released.
The new single, which follows his debut single “Overload” by more than six years, encapsulates the musician from Jakarta’s transformation from self-doubt to emancipation. VVYND quietly expresses his dissatisfaction with a compromise-filled life, one that prevents him from speaking his mind and, as a result, prevents him from becoming the truest version of himself, at the beginning of “Orbit,” which is set in a reflective mood.

“Since my debut single ‘Overload’ was released in 2016, I have been on a constant journey of self-discovery that is perfectly reflected in the lyrics of ‘Orbit’,” said VVYND who releases his music independently. “The song starts in my headspace where all of my insecurities and worries exist. As it progresses, ‘Orbit’ leads you to an epiphany that is brimming with optimism where you take control of your own narrative and where every part of you is celebrated and embraced,”
Written by VVYND and produced by Gamaliel Abram Pradipta, who has collaborated with Indonesian hip hop heavyweight RAMENGVRL and one of the most prominent electronic music figures in the Indonesian scene Winky Wiryawan, “Orbit” is the manifestation of VVYND’s long-awaited freedom. “I dedicate this song to my younger self who was bold, full of dreams and fueled by ambitions—traits that gradually went missing as I grew older. I owe my younger self a lot. It’s time to make him proud.”
“Orbit” is mixed and mastered by Reonaldi Jessup at SotoStudio who has also mixed and mastered some of the most critically-acclaimed works in the last year including ‘MOMO’S MYSTERIOUS SKIN’ album by the widely-celebrated Asian hip hop artist BAP. who recently won the Best Hip Hop Solo Artist category at the 2022 AMI Award—the most prestigious award in the Indonesian music industry. Jessup has also mixed and mastered works by current Indonesian hip hop royalties Basboi and Laze as well as rising hip hop duo Livingroom.
VVYND, whose real name is Kevin Wiyarnanda, dropped his debut single “Overload” in 2016 and received support from numerous established media outlets in the Southeast Asian region including Rolling Stone Indonesia, Prambors (ID), detikcom (ID), Lush 99.5 FM (SG) and Bandwagon Asia that described the track as “a proper introduction—sultry, evocative and free of all the contrived elements of an R&B song.”
In 2017, VVYND graced the cover of Spotify’s IndieNesia editorial playlist that introduced him to even more music fans in his home country. Today, the song has garnered more than 388.000 streams across all platforms.
VVYND went on tour with acclaimed Indonesian rapper A. Nayaka and his Blue Room Boys project in 2018, visiting Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Jakarta. During the same year, VVYND was also featured on A. Nayaka & The Blue Room Boys’ set at one of Southeast Asia’s biggest music festivals, We The Fest.
In 2019, VVYND collaborated with some of the Indonesia’s burgeoning musical acts, including “Coco,” which was co-written by VVYND, and “Next to Me,” which featured Logic Lost and Mataharibisu, both of whom are up for AMI Awards.
During the peak of the pandemic in 2020, VVYND was featured on producer GOONZ’s mid-tempo R&B track “RUN IT BACK.” VVYND contributed to the song’s writing, which received over 500.000 streams in less than two years.
