Fil-Aussie Musician grentperez Lets You in on Dreamy New Track off an Online Collab with Fans

SINGAPORE – Hot on the heels of his viral hit that made a dent in the charts across Southeast Asia through his debut single “Cherry Wine”, Filipino-Australian musician grentperez brings forth a dreamy new single, “My Heart It Beats For You”.

A collaboration between grentperez and his fans, the songwriting is a sweet insight into this exciting new artist’s world, and even features a verse in Filipino. He says, “‘My Heart It Beats For You’ was initially created live on Twitch, where I started the song and the chat would type out some lyrics that they thought fit. I hand picked a few and their contributions which made up the second verse, ‘And when the sun sleeps at night,” grentperez says.

The hypnotic new offering is a little slice of bliss, which he initially teased on YouTube back in May, which then led to his fans demanding for an official release.

grentperez then shares on the track, “This song in particular has a special place in my heart. Melodically it feels very warm and stable, very subtly swaying you around like a gentle rock of a boat, while the lyrics somewhat fade from image to image like you’re recollecting memories and feelings that never happened.

‘My Heart It Beats For You’ is heavily inspired by the likes of Lionel Richie, Norah Jones, and Don McLean’s “Vincent”, to name a few and I hope that can be pronounced in the production of the song.

In less than a month from the release of his debut hit “Cherry Wine”, the track has already seen massive support in Southeast Asia, landing coveted features on MTV Asia, VH1 India, SEA Today (Indonesia), and more. The song is now dominating viral charts in Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam!

After spending the pandemic honing his own sound and nurturing his songwriting, grentperez is now sitting on a wealth of stunning bedroom pop that will coax out your inner romantic.

Born in Australia, the young singer-songwriter grew up as the youngest of three kids in a Filipino family. Raised on a sonic diet of The Eagles, The Beatles, and Queen, thanks to his dad before moving onto the likes of Musiq Soulchild, soon as he received his first nylon string acoustic, he then taught himself Jeremy Passion’s “Lemonade”, learning chords, shapes, and plucking patterns.

At the end of 2013, grentperez launched his YouTube channel which has garnered almost half a million subscribers and over 30 million views to date. Back in early 2020, he found himself at a crossroads as a freshman in college. “It was either, ‘Finish Uni’ or ‘Do music’,” he recalls. “Guess what I chose?”

On pursuing music as a career, he then shares, “When I fully dropped out, my parents were surprisingly fine with it, I’d like to think they understand that I wanted to take a risk, and they trust me not to get lost if in the event I’m unsuccessful, I know that they’re my biggest supporters and I’m very very grateful to have them as my parents.”

When asked about the stereotype of Asian parents when it comes to education, he responds, “[The] decision still came with a few ‘Are you sure?’, ‘So, You’re not going back to Uni’, ‘You can still be a doctor’ questions and remarks.”

With a lineup of new music slated to come this year, grentperez is definitely a rising artist to keep an eye on.
