MANILA, Philippines — Filipino ad independents reconnected as Indierectory, Manila’s listing of Ad Independents, had its second networking night titled ‘The Proposals’ to bridge the gap between creative freelancers and clients last February 26.

“I had fun! And I plan to call three ‘freelancers’ next week,” said Gladys Rondina Basinillo, CEO of Intersections Communications, Inc. “In a self-governed industry, this is such a great initiative to help our freelancers and clients. May added value talaga,” she added.

During the night, Indierectory followed the “143” rule in which Freelancers presented their books to clients for 1 minute each in 4 breakout rooms, followed by a 3-minute Q&A per room.

Everyone, from clients to freelancers, was able to interact and listen to pitches. Most clients took the opportunity and offered proposals to their preferred freelancer on the spot.

Among 800 registrants,35 ad independents and 28 clients across agencies and companies joined the event.  Lasting two hours, attendees were highly encouraged to share their contact information with one another for further collaboration.

“I really enjoyed it, ang saya! Congratulations to the whole team,” said Jungee Marcelo, award-winning composer, music producer and freelancer. “Maraming salamat sa opportunity. I truly appreciate it,” he added.

“For as long as there are brand champions and expert collaborators who can connect the dots strategically, there will always be opportunities for these freelancers,” adds Basinillo. “After all, the future belongs to the creative, to the fast, and to the collaborative.”

Present in the event were Publicis Manila, TBWA/Santiago Mangada Puno, ThirtySix-O Media, Dentsu One Manila, Ace Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, Ideal Prime Ventures Labs Inc., Intersections Communications Inc., among others agencies.

Up next on the list of Indierectory’s events is a discussion on freelancing and income tax. This session will also be open to clients who are keen to know how independent work is taxed.
