In its fifteenth year, Cinema One Originals just handed out greatest honors for the best of this year’s edition of the esteemed film festival. Held at the Dolphy Theater, the eight diverse participating films vied for the Best Picture plum. At the end of the ten-day festival, the LGBTQIA+ films showcased this year that garnered top honors.
Sila-Sila, the film that talked about the many complications of an adult relationship by returning filmmaker Giancarlo Abrahan took home the Best Picture award and Best Supporting Actor honors for theater director and actor Topper Fabregas. The film was also given the Audience Choice Award.
Metamorphosis, a remarkable first talking about intersex individuals, also copped major awards including Best Director for young newcomer, J.E. Tiglao and the Best Actor award for young rising actor, Gold Azeron, while his co-star Iana Fernandez was eventually awarded Best Supporting Actress.
The awards given to the film became all the more rewarding after its well-publicized hurdle with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), after its initial X-rating, that almost led to the film not being exhibited. In the end, the film eventually received an R-16 rating.
