This week, social media lighted up with interest on a couple of teasers posted online referencing to a very familiar setting. Remember the tail-end of the 1990s when Barbie Almalbis serenaded us with an official Sunday hymn and everyone wanted to find their own “barkada spot” as the one in famed teen drama, Tabing Ilog?

Initial postings drew speculations from online fans getting excited for a remake of the teen-oriented classic, but new official Instagram and Facebook accounts, @TabingIlogMusical, confirmed that it is a reboot unlike any other–the series is now becoming a musical.

While no details were divulged, the nostalgic posts did strike a chord with fans of the classic television series. Tabig Ilog was an award-winning ABS-CBN youth-oriented program that centered on the ups and downs of young adult life of a group of friends we have come to love. The show trailed the overlapping narratives of each of its well-loved characters, Eds, James, Badong, Rovic, Corrinne, George, Anne, and Fonzy.
