MANILA, Philippines—In November 2023, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) celebrated Filipino Values Month with a dynamic series of events, including the Heneral Tuna Digital Poster Making Contest.
This contest featured artworks by Filipino high school and college students, interpreting the theme “Filipino Values for the Common Good.” With 220 entries from 56 cities and provinces, the contest showcased the talent and creativity of young Filipinos.

Anna Rina Oncog, a young Boholano artist, clinched first place by integrating Heneral Tuna into various elements of Filipino culture. Lorenzo Angelo Maranan from Baguio City secured second place with a monochromatic masterpiece, while Khem Mary Abalos of Antipolo City claimed third place, depicting Heneral Tuna as an integral part of Barangay Hiraya.

Oncog received a PHP10,000 cash prize, Maranan and Abalos received PHP7,500 and PHP5,000, respectively, along with certificates and special tokens from the NCCA. The contest was part of NCCA’s Filipino Values Month celebration, coinciding with the launch of the Heneral Tuna children’s book series and a partnership with the Knowledge Channel to broadcast Heneral Tuna episodes.
